Debuting at the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi in India as EcoSport Ford, the new compact crossover is the latest Ford's ever-expanding global family of products.
Modern and innovative, the new Ford EcoSport was designed to combine the best of its class design, technology, quality and safety to attract a new generation of consumers in different markets.
The vehicle is based on the Blue Oval's global B-segment platform, used in other subcompacts like the Fiesta and future B-Max. Ford Australia has confirmed the engine options include the EcoSport most small business engine "Ecoboost" again - a turbocharged, direct injection 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline.
The 1.0-liter turbo will spread to other Ford products, the Fiesta one of the most likely recipients.
Ford did not disclose a fuel for the engine but says emissions will be less than 140 grams per kilometer, which is equivalent to fuel consumption somewhere in the 4.0-liter per 100 km mi.
A diesel engine of 1.5 liter turbo will provide the fuel consumption and emissions even more, while the 1.5 liter normally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine will power the entry-level EcoSport.
Both engines are already found in the Fiesta in India, where gasoline 1.5-liter produces 80kW/140Nm and uses about 5.9 liters per 100 km and 1.5-liter diesel engine and has a 66kW/204Nm figure for fuel consumption of about 4.3L/100km.
A five-speed manual gearbox is standard with a Powershift dual-clutch automatic is an option on diesel and possibly gasoline.
